Meteor likely caused loud ‘boom’ heard across Utah, officials say

A loud “increase” heard throughout areas of northern Utah was seemingly a meteor, officers mentioned Saturday.

Stories of the loud noise circulated at about 8:30 a.m., with individuals from Orem to southern Idaho posting that they heard the “increase,” The Salt Lake Tribune reported.

Utah Gov. Spencer Cox tweeted that his workplace confirmed it was not associated to any seismic exercise or navy installations.

The Nationwide Climate Service’s Salt Lake Metropolis workplace wrote in a tweet that its lightning detection mapper seemingly picked up the meteor’s path flash, which officers mentioned appeared to be confirmed by witness video in Roy.

South Salt Lake resident Wendi Melling was simply heading out the door Saturday morning when she heard the noise, which she described as a “loud deep booming sound” adopted by a couple of seconds of rumbling.

“I assumed I heard one thing fall in the home. I’ve since searched the home prime to backside and the one factor I’ve discovered was one slat from our picket fence that had fallen, in order that’s a aid,” Melling wrote in a Fb message.

“It did sound much like sonic booms I’ve heard earlier than, adopted by a brief incident of a sound much like low rolling thunder,” Melling continued. “This rumbling noise that adopted the increase was perhaps on 3-4 seconds.”
