KENTLAND, Ind. — A 36-year-old man has been shot and wounded by officers after escaping from a jail transport van in western Indiana and later firing photographs from an condo he bumped into, state police mentioned.
Jayme Lopez of Gary fled about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday after arriving on the Newton County Jail in Kentland from a jail in Iroquois County, Illinois, police mentioned.
State troopers situated Lopez about 1 p.m. at an condo constructing in Kentland, northwest of Lafayette. A sheriff’s tactical unit was known as in and started negotiations with Lopez.
A short while later, photographs had been fired from the condo. A tactical unit officer returned fireplace, putting Lopez who then surrendered, state police mentioned.
Lopez was being handled at a hospital. His situation was not accessible Wednesday evening.
He had been wished on a warrant out of Newton County.
State police are investigating the taking pictures.
