Leaders concerned about effectiveness of Chicago Park District’s security camera program, BGA finds

CHICAGO (TOC) — In April, a Higher Authorities Affiliation investigation of the Chicago Park District’s distribution of safety cameras in Chicago’s huge system of neighborhood parks revealed a tiny digital camera program with little cash and riddled with inequity and neglect.

“We discovered there are solely safety cameras in 16 parks within the metropolis of 600 owned and operated by the park district which is lower than 3% of town’s parks,” stated Sidnee King with the BGA. “And lots of occasions these safety cameras are in parks that had negligible quantities of crime reported within the final 12 months.”

The BGA later discovered the Chicago Park District advisory workers and members of the Chicago Metropolis Council have raised issues in regards to the effectiveness of these cameras.

Locals leaders have stated they aren’t positive that the cameras are of adequate high quality or that the Chicago Police Division has entry to the footage.

This all began after a taking pictures within the car parking zone of Lincoln Park Excessive Faculty. The BGA stated an alderperson reached out to the Chicago Park District asking how they may entry footage from close by cameras, however was unable to get solutions.
