INDIANA (TOC) — A Wisconsin man was arrested after Indiana State Police mentioned he fired at a trooper throughout a chase Monday.
The person was arrested after leaping bare armed with a handgun into the Calumet River, police mentioned.
The incident began at about 3:30 p.m. close to the Calumet Avenue exit after Indiana State Police got here throughout a 1993 teal Ford Escort that seemed to be disabled car and not using a rear license plate.
Police mentioned the driving force of the Escort noticed the trooper and sped away, with the trooper getting right into a squad automobile to chase the person.
After pursuing the Escort into Hammond and again onto the Indiana Toll Highway, police mentioned the driving force made a U-turn close to Cline Avenue and commenced driving eastbound within the westbound lanes.
As the driving force modified course, police mentioned he fired photographs on the trooper. The trooper initially pursued the Escort, however deserted the chase due visitors situations.
A short while later, a crash was reported involving the Escort, with 911 callers reporting a person with a gun fleeing.
Indiana state troopers in addition to officers from the Lake County Sheriff’s Workplace, Gary and Hammond responded and the suspect was situated below a bridge.
Police mentioned the suspect was bare and jumped into the Little Calumet River whereas holding a handgun.
A helicopter tracked the person within the river, who finally swam ashore and was taken into custody, police mentioned.
Costs towards the 38-year-old Milwaukee man are pending, police mentioned.
