ELWOOD, Ind. — A younger Indiana police officer was killed early Sunday when a person received out of his automobile throughout a site visitors cease and opened fireplace, authorities stated.

The suspect was caught roughly half-hour later after a automobile chase, state police stated.

Noah Shahnavaz, 24, was an officer on the Elwood police division, 50 miles (80 kilometers) northeast of Indianapolis. He stopped the driving force of a Buick LaCrosse simply after 2 a.m.

“For an unknown purpose, the suspect exited the Buick and fired a number of rounds, placing the officer not less than one time,” state police stated.

Shahnavaz was a U.S. Military veteran who had been an Elwood officer for 11 months.

“A mindless act of violence robbed this younger man of the life and profession he deserved,” Mayor Todd Jones stated.
