Cold case solved? DNA test leads to arrest of Gerald Smith in sexual assault, murder of Gary, Indiana woman Gloria Hansell

Investigators stated they used DNA proof collected on the scene to cost Gerald Smith.

GARY, Ind (TOC) — A Kentucky man has been charged with the decades-old homicide of a 69-year-old lady from Gary, Indiana.

Prosecutors stated Gerald Smith raped and brutally murdered Gloria Hansell. Hansell was discovered strangled in her residence in 1994.

Investigators stated they used DNA proof collected on the scene to cost Smith.

Additionally they credited members of the FBI’s Gang Response Investigative Group, who realized that Smith was in Gary shortly earlier than the homicide, and even knew the sufferer.

Smith is being held in a Kentucky jail and shall be extradited to Lake County, Indiana.
