Civil rights lawsuit to be filed after Dewayne Tucker dies following transfer to Jerome Combs Detention Center in Kankakee County

‘They went from seeing him comfortable, wholesome and high-quality, to seeing him on a respirator,’ stated household lawyer John Erickson.

CHICAGO (TOC) — It was Aug. 16 when 32-year-old Dewayne Tucker was picked up by U.S. Marshals and transferred to the Combs Detention Middle. Three weeks and three days later, he was lifeless.

“He was within the care and custody of the U.S. Marshals and the Kankakee County sheriff, who had an affirmative responsibility, as they do with all pre-trial detainees, to maintain them protected,” stated John Erickson, the lawyer for Dewayne’s household.

At a press convention within the Loop on Tuesday, Dewayne’s household, alongside their attorneys, stated he had been transferred and was being held on the Combs Detention Middle in Kankakee.

“I have to know what went on with my little one. Why he depart and be gone three weeks and now he is lifeless?” stated Dennis Tucker Sr., the sufferer’s father.

Dewayne was charged with robbing a PNC financial institution within the Gold Coast. When he failed to point out up for a courtroom listening to on Aug. 30, kin turned anxious. However they weren’t notified till Sept. 7 that he was hospitalized, affected by mind swelling and kidney failure introduced on by extreme dehydration. However they stated that wasn’t all.

Dewayne died at Kankakee’s Riverside Hospital on Sept. ninth. Attorneys have been calling on the Division of Justice to mount a full investigation into his dying.

“They by no means offered the household with any actual stable solutions in any respect,” Erickson stated. “They went from seeing him comfortable, wholesome and high-quality, to seeing him on a respirator.”

As of now, neither the U.S. Marshals Workplace nor the Kankakee County sheriff have responded to ABC7’s requests for data. Attorneys for the Tucker household stated they are going to be submitting a civil rights lawsuit in federal courtroom.
