Chicago girl celebrates 1st birthday nearly a year after shot in head during Englewood mass shooting

CHICAGO (TOC) — She was shot within the head simply weeks after being born in a mass taking pictures within the Englewood neighborhood final summer season. Now, Terriana Smith is ringing in her first birthday surrounded by family members.In her very brief life, Smith has already endured way over what many would undergo in a lifetime.

“She’s a blessing to me,” stated her mom, Tyeshia Banks. “It means all the pieces to see my child nonetheless right here with me, residing and doing superb.”

Safety footage captured the horrifying moments final July when three gunmen hopped out of a Jeep and started firing in each course close to 66th and Halsted, taking pictures seven folks.

Smith was the youngest sufferer at just one month previous on the time. She was sitting within the automobile along with her mother and father when she was shot within the head. Her father was additionally shot.

“That is actually an affidavit and it is a story that when she will get older she will inform lots of people,” added Smith’s uncle and neighborhood activist, Charles McKenzie.

Now, for the reason that taking pictures, Smith’s mom stated she has moved out of the neighborhood for her household’s personal security.

Up to now, no arrests have been made.
